Marietta, Ga. (July 22, 2009) Shreiner Academy, a state-accredited private school for 2K through 8th grade in Marietta, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
As part of the celebration, Shreiner is opening its beautiful 8-acre campus to the public with a free festival on Saturday Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at 1340 Terrell Mill Rd., Marietta. There will be games, raffles, food, balloon rides (weather and conditions permitting), and live music performed by Atlanta band, 999 MPH, and more. In addition to the festival, Shreiner would also like to introduce its new headmaster, Sarah Walker, formerly with the Cincinnati Country Day School, to the community.
"Shreiner is one of the best kept secrets in East Cobb" Walker said. "We want to open our doors to the greater-Atlanta area and share what makes our school stand out from the rest. Shreiner is dedicated to the individual achievement of every student, and we invite the public to visit our campus, schedule a tour, and learn about the remarkable educational experience available to their children. Especially in this economy, value-for-dollar is important. Shreiner offers this value for a lifetime and so much more-a superior, whole-child approach to education. Investing in our children is the most important investment we can make as parents."
Sharon Wilensky, assistant head of school and director of admissions, agrees, "I have been a parent here for more than 16 years and have worked here for over 13," Wilensky said. "Shreiner is a place where children are nurtured, respected and encouraged. Our incredible academics, coupled with our personal attention is a rare experience in our society today. Our school is a hidden treasure in East Cobb and we want to share our experiences with families throughout Atlanta."
Shreiner's tradition of excellence is due in part to its rich history. In 1918, the Shreiner Family founded their first private school, The Church Farm School, in Paoli, Penn. In 1969, a branch of the Shreiner family, Harold and Marion Shreiner, moved to Atlanta and established a school. In 1980, construction of the Shreiner Academy campus on Terrell Mill Road began. Over the following years, the school's remarkable growth and imaginative curriculum were nationally recognized.
Shreiner was recently purchased by the American Education Group, a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based private company that also owns Barnstable Academy in Oakland, NJ, Fusion Academy in Solana Beach, Calif., Lexis Preparatory School in Phoenix, Ariz., Little Sprouts in Boston, Mass., and Tampa Day School in Tampa, Fla.
